Adding commentary via the quick access bar

Answer

In ChessBase 14 there is beneath the notation a bar which, compared to previous versions, acts as a quick access bar and performs a useful service in the annotation of games. E.g. it is now very simple to rapidly insert diagrams into the notation. All that is needed to do so is a simple click on the diagram symbol in the function bar.

The program then immediately inserts in the notation a diagram with the actual board position.

Now you simply have to save the game and the diagram will then be stored permanently, just like all other changes which have been made to the notation.

A further very practical innovation is the option to instantly delete all commentary permanently from the notation. For that you simply click on the symbol with the eraser at the extreme right of the function bar.

Before saving this serious alteration you must consider whether this step should really be final. If not the program offers you the option of undoing your “delete”. This function is available under Home– Undo last change to game (top left of screen).

Of course you also have the possibility of deleting only specific elements within the notation. The data format also supports the integration of graphic commentary (coloured squares or arrows on the chessboard), multimedia – or correspondence chess annotation, training questions, textual commentary, etc.

But there is a special menu “Delete” which makes it possible for the user to specify which elements are to be removed from the notation.  Right click – Delete starts this specific menu for you to choose from. More information on that can be found here …..

Otherwise, all the symbols for commentary can be found via the function bar. The proedure remains the same. A click on the symbol places it within the notation, the hotkey “Ctrl-Z” removes it.
